EVENT PROGRAMMING WORKING

Thursday, 16 December. 10:00 hs. - Registration and accreditation.

Working Group (WG 1) 11:00 - 13.00 hs. - "Secularism, education and sexual and reproductive rights." Chairs: Victor Ribeiro, and L. Valentin Magnone Nicolas Guigou The aim of the WG is to discuss the current status of secularism in the Rio de la Plata through situations in our countries experienced in recent years. Sexual and reproductive rights and marriage and adoption by same-sex couples are emerging as a set of public debates in which the game is in state secularism. Transformations public education through the adoption of new laws and educational policies aimed at children and adolescents from vulnerable by NGOs funded by the state emerges as another area in which the secular state can be problematized. Likewise, the discourses and practices of churches and religious movements to sexual and reproductive rights, are also the realm of value, denial or confirmation thereof. In this way we hope to generate a discussion that allows us to understand the continuities and transformations of secularism in our country.

Working Group (WG 2)
15:00 to 17:30 hs. - "Religion, dictatorship and political systems in the Rio de la Plata" Coordinators: Victoria Chiappara Evia and Carla Says: Luciana Fuqua The aim of the WG is to discuss the influence of religion in recent political history of our country. The 60 involved a repositioning of religion in relation to the political, crystallized in Catholicism with Vatican II and Medellín Consensus, repositioning carried out by different currents also Protestant and African American religions. Dictatorship in the Southern Cone emerges as a historic moment that demonstrates the differences in the relationships the different religious currents, especially Catholicism, maintained with state terrorism. The restoration of democracy in the 80's has religious organizations and Christian base communities as key actors in the process of re-democratization and now the link between the religious and political takes on new forms that discuss the strict separation between these dimensions postulated by the theories of secularization.

Friday 17 December.
Working Group (WG 3) 10:30 - 13 pm. - "Picture, religious iconography and memory"
Coordinators: Magdalena Gutiérrez, Florencia Martinez and JA Nadruz.

The goal of WP is to investigate the emblems, symbols and traditions of religion in our region. The different forms of religion can be understood as a set of images, discourses and symbols attached to a particular tradition that crystallizes the identity and memory of a religious group. It is in this sense that we are interested in the various reports of religious groups, defined as the construction of a temporary and a particular historicity. The appropriation of urban space, the different forms of popular religion and ritual performances of the various religious groups is another area interest of the working group.
