In my short experience as a teacher I have been gradually changing my methodology in the classroom by observing, first, and how much I learn from teachers of the blogosphere, on the other, and one aspect I've changed was the way to evaluate the readings.
During my first year as a teacher, and following the tradition of my school, did tests to assess whether the students had read the book. The following year, I modified the test to include questions of interpretation, valuation and a little literary creation. In both cases I had a feeling of wastage reader teaching mixed with uneasiness, which increased to ensure that the reviews of readings (some even as a test!) Was not common in schools, but almost the only option arise.
The alternatives, as always, I found on the web: Videoformes literary, collaborative wikis , reading recommendations or interactive sequences proposals closer to the student, more open in terms of instruments and qualification criteria and with more juice than a cursory examination whose only requirement is to remember the color of the pants of Frederick.
As told in a previous post , reading chosen for the initial evaluation at 1 ยบ ESO has been Abdel of Enrique Paez, a book to elaborate on different topics beyond the strictly literary, as the Arab world, illegal immigration, drug smuggling, labor exploitation and child and family values. If the books are a window to the world, try to open students up to the window to take advantage of what we offer.
With reading tab I made a purpose of the book I tried to make the students work on different aspects both thematic (the Arab world, the political, African geography) and language and literature (descriptions, reading comprehension, critical reviews creative writing, interviews), and the search information on the Internet.
